For the fifth consecutive year, the Virginia Gay Hospital Home Health Agency is sponsoring an Angel Tree for home health patients in Benton County who are in need this holiday season. Many of these patients don’t have family or friends living nearby, and many lack the mobility or financial means to celebrate the season. The agency is inviting the community to help with purchasing a new gift by selecting an angel from the “Angel Tree” located behind the front registration desk (near the elevator) on the main floor of the hospital. Tags will be displayed on the tree starting Monday, December 3. Return wrapped gifts to the hospital’s lobby desk by Monday, December 17.
To participate, select a tag from the “Angel Tree,” purchase and wrap a new gift from the suggestions listed. Please note that used items of any condition and monetary donations cannot be accepted. If multiple items are intended for the same person, please package them together securely along with the tag. It ensures the right gift(s) get delivered to the right person.
Melissa Smith, RN, BSN, Director of Home Health/Public Health explains, “Many of our clients are low income and lack the support of close family or friends. In many cases, they lack basic needs. In years past, this program has shown them care and compassion by fulfilling straightforward needs.”
Donors are asked to make sure gifts purchased are those listed on the gift tags. Those items listed are the ones most urgently needed, but additional purchases are also welcome. Suggestions for those “extras” include large print books or magazines, slippers, socks, shoes, pillow, blanket, sheets, bathrobe, pajamas, bath products, board games, belt, suspenders, sweats, shirts, calendar, and candy. Please note that because many of these clients have limited or no transportation, gift cards unless specifically listed on the tag should not be included as gifts.
