Pain Clinic

by | Feb 22, 2019

The purpose of the pain clinic at Virginia Gay is to alleviate pain or suffering our patients are experiencing. Chronic pain afflicts more Americans than any other condition and mistreating pain can lead to dependence or addiction to pain medications. Virginia Gay Hospital and Clinics are striving to expand access to advanced pain care for everyone in Benton County.

The pain clinic is one of the comprehensive medical specialties Virginia Gay offers. Others include cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, pulmonology, psychiatry, podiatry, ear nose and throat, neurology, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, and nephrology.

The complete schedule of Virginia Gay’s specialty clinics can be accessed here.

Acute vs. Chronic Pain

Every person experiences pain differently. The Virginia Gay Hospital Pain Clinic works with patients who are experiencing acute or chronic pain. Our goal is to alleviate and hopefully treat both types of pain. Acute pain is present for a short period and should relieve with standard treatment. Chronic pain is pain that is not alleviated within a 12 week period, and it can go on with no completely effective treatment.

We do a complete evaluation. We highlight the neuromuscular – what a patient can and cannot do with the body, how they walk, the body mechanics, how they move their arms and legs, their strength, their reflexes, their sensation. And if there’s an alteration in that, we direct our care towards that problem.
