Employee Spotlight – Kelli Schmadeke
My name is Kelli Schmadeke. I am a Home Health RN here at Virginia Gay. I have been employed at VGH for roughly 10 years. As a home health RN, I see and provide care to patients in their homes. I perform assessments and educate patients on their diagnosis. I monitor for effectiveness of treatments. I perform wound care, lab draws, and vital signs. What I love most about my job is that I get to provide one-on-one patient care. This allows me to get to know each patient as an individual, not just a patient. Being able to assist them with staying in their home is a blessing. I am passionate about being an advocate for my clients. I have a very flexible schedule. I also have FANTASTIC management who listen, want our opinions, and give recognition to staff within our department. I chose to pursue a career in this field because I was looking for a position that works best for my family. I jumped at the opportunity to work in Home Health when they had an opening, not knowing it would be the best decision of my career. My biggest contribution to the team is that I am always willing to learn new skills and help out when needed.
I have been married to my husband Chad for 13 years. We have one son, Lance, who is 10 years old and in 4th grade. My hobbies include anything outdoors (when it’s nice), golfing, puzzles, cats, and plants. My favorite food is Mexican. One thing I can’t live without is coffee. I am still looking for my favorite vacation spot, although I do enjoy going anywhere with a beach. Something I’ve always wanted to do is zipline. My favorite childhood memory is having family holidays at my grandpa’s. If someone were to describe me in three words, they would be hardworking, kind, and motivated.
