Virginia Gay Hospital (VGH) is a privately operated, nonprofit rural hospital created by the trust of Virginia Gay, which has successfully served the needs of the people of Vinton and the surrounding communities since 1923. Our purpose is to provide quality health care services by using innovative, growth-oriented techniques and maintaining a sound financial base.

The mission of the Virginia Gay Hospital Health Care Foundation is the continuation of health and medical care to the people of the Virginia Gay Hospital service area.
This mission began in 1914 by our founder and benefactor Virginia Gay who bequeathed a generous gift of $50,000 to the city of Vinton. The reason for this gift was for the city to establish a community hospital. This gift, valued at more than $1,000,000 today, provided the necessary foundation for what Virginia Gay Hospital is today.
Our healing tradition may have began over 100 years ago, however, our goal hasn't changed. Our concern for humanity is demonstrated by a commitment to obtain and distribute funds through the Virginia Gay Hospital Health Care Foundation that will promote, maintain and restore the health of the individuals it serves.
