Employee Spotlight Ronda Buchtela
My name is Ronda Buchtela. I am a Registered Nurse in the Acute Care department at Virginia Gay Hospital. I have been employed at VGH since December 17th, 2024. My job includes providing nursing cares to patients (assessments, administer medication and IV medications), Charge Nurse duties, and ER orientation. What I love most about my job is getting to do so many different things and working with staff that are kind. I chose a career in this field because I wanted to provide compassionate care to patients. My biggest contribution to the team is that I am a very compassionate person and can put myself in their position.
A recent achievement of mine is that I received my BLS certificate. I have two living sons and one who has passed away. I have a total of 11 grandchildren. I have one brother and one sister and one sister that has passed away. I can’t live without my grandkids. One fun fact about me is that I love to cook big meals for all of my family get-togethers. My favorite food is Mexican. An experience that has had a lasting impact on me is that when I first became a nurse, I did not like morphine, but I physically witnessed my sister go through “air hunger” and it changed my mind completely. My hobbies include collecting lighthouses and rubber jeep ducks. I love to go to the beach and lake. My favorite vacation spot is Myrtle Beach. I’ve always wanted to learn to scuba dive or skydive. My favorite childhood memory is going to my grandparents’ house on weekends.
