EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT – TINA EDEN, CEO
My name is Tina Eden. I am the CEO of Virginia Gay Hospital and Clinics. I am transitioning from the roles of CNO and Director of Nursing. I have been employed at VGH for 35 years. My job includes providing oversight and coordination of operations. What I love most about my job is that it is challenging and engaging. I cover a variety of areas and enjoy getting to know the staff and working with patients. There is never a dull moment in my role as rural health care is so different each day. I will admit that I didn’t always want to work in healthcare. In High School, I was interested in science and wanted to teach. After finding the opportunity to work at VGH, I realized that I loved the science and pathology side of health care. I am passionate about serving my community and enjoy public service careers. Through my college courses, I also realized I enjoyed organizational development and the art of managing people who work in health care. A recent achievement of mine was being named a Unity Point Outstanding Healthcare Leader in 2023. My biggest contribution to the team is participation. I believe we all need to work together to not only provide quality care for our patients but to make VGH a great place to work.
I have been married to my husband Dennis for 30 years. We have two sons; son John and his wife Kara who have my 18-month-old granddaughter, and son Ben and his girlfriend Bryonna. We all live locally within an hour of each other. I graduated high school from Shellsburg Community School before the consolidation with Vinton. My kids graduated from Vinton-Shellsburg. My hobbies include gardening and spending time with family and friends. We have chickens and ponies on our acreage, so we stay pretty busy caring for them. My favorite childhood memories include spending time at my grandparent’s farm and living at my parents’ wooded acreage. Agriculture, even on a small scale, and nature are still an escape for me.
One fun fact about me is that my husband and I have been to more than six live concerts this year. I don’t have a favorite vacation spot as I like to go to new locations any chance I get. My favorite foods are pizza and peanut M&M’s. I can’t live without diet soda. I have always wanted to learn American Sign Language. I volunteer at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in various roles. I work for North Benton as a paramedic and provide education for local public service organizations like EMS, fire, and law enforcement. I am very passionate about community service, making a difference locally, and creating a resilient workforce and in turn, community.
