Jennifer Melvin, PA-C Named UNMC New Preceptor of the Year

Celebrating Jennifer Melvin, PA-C! Jennifer provides care for our community in the VGH Emergency Department. Recently Jennifer was honored by the University of Nebraska Medical Center as the UNMC PA Class of 2023 New Preceptor of the Year (unanimously selected)! The student who nominated Jennifer stated “She was the BEST preceptor by far” and “she was a true inspiration.” Jennifer received her Physicians Assistant degree from the UNMC PA Program in Omaha, NE.
Students at UNMC PA Program are required to do 15 rotations at medical facilities. Being a preceptor is a volunteer opportunity which requires follow through and an added responsibility. Jennifer enjoys meeting the students, mentoring, teaching and providing onsite real-world experience with them, especially in the rural setting. Jennifer stated there is a great benefit in the preceptor/student interactions, she is able learn about new protocols, procedures and innovations the students have exposure to in their curriculum. During their rotations, the students are onsite for the preceptors scheduled hours. Students who do their rotation at VGH are able to have access to housing which helps considerably for access. Congratulations Jennifer and your commitment to quality education in health care.
