VINTON, Iowa – Virginia Gay Hospital & Clinics is pleased to announce that Mariam Gallagher, D.O., MPH, has joined its medical staff as a board-certified Family Medicine physician and is now accepting new patients.
Dr. Gallagher brings a diverse background in family medicine, primary care, hospital medicine, military healthcare, telehealth, and medical education. She is committed to providing comprehensive, patient-centered care for individuals and families of all ages while emphasizing preventive medicine, chronic disease management, and wellness.
Dr. Gallagher earned both her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees from A.T. Still University in Kirksville, Missouri. She received her bachelor’s degree in Physiological Sciences with a minor in English from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She completed her Family Medicine Residency at Comanche County Memorial Hospital through the Oklahoma State University Family Medicine Residency Program.
Board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, Dr. Gallagher is licensed to practice medicine in both Iowa and Missouri. Throughout her career, she has served in a variety of clinical settings, including outpatient family medicine, hospital medicine, occupational medicine, telehealth, and military medicine. Most recently, she served as Associate Assistant Program Director for the MercyOne Northeast Iowa Family Medicine Residency Program in Waterloo, Iowa, where she helped educate and mentor resident physicians.
Prior to returning to Iowa, Dr. Gallagher also provided primary care to military personnel and their families while serving with the U.S. Army medical system in Grafenwoehr, Germany. Earlier in her career, she practiced as a hospitalist and served as adjunct faculty for the Oklahoma State University Family Medicine Residency Program, helping train future physicians and leading quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety.
